A Deep Dive into Jazz-Funk Nuggets from the Vault

Steal this art and share it.

Jazz is truly an American invention, and while other countries have explored it and pushed it to new limits, it remains something we created. Many purists bemoan the lack of exploration in recent years in the form, but those same purists took issue with jazz musicians adding funk and soul into the bouillabaisse. As funk rose in stature and critical acclaim, the inherent creative inside the jazz world adopted it. The scenesters, hipsters, and hep cats added soul, rock, and early electronic pieces into their work.

While fusion is often a delicate performance on a narrow balance beam, the tracks I've included here push outward while never losing focus. Yes, it can be loose and freewheeling, but not without form - however broad the form may be. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. These top-flight masters and little-known professionals have concocted these treasures for us to appreciate, groove to, and find inspiration in.
