There is an undeniable and deeply desirable mystique of the midnight hour, when the clock strikes 12 and the day is made new all over again. It's time for another round, for more magic, for more everything.
Midnight is the time for broken hearts and the neon lights of cocktail lounges that call to them. It is the time for solemn vows, curses and oaths. We call upon the Bard to break it down for us:
Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world: now could I drink hot blood,
And do such bitter business as the day
Would quake to look on.
Hamlet [Act III, sc. ii]

Or we could go to Washington Irving for some help explaining the quality of midnight:
"Two pairs of eyes are watching me now, from the couch and the ledge by the window. Faerieland shines in those eyes. And I must leave you, for it's the witching hour and a full moon is rising. . . ."

Or...we could all just take our parents' advice: Nothing good happens after midnight.
